Rowe

The house

A frame first, then everything else.

Rowe has built upholstery since 1946 and today makes its custom seating in Elliston, Virginia. Each order begins with a defined frame, then opens into a broad program of fabrics, cushion constructions and finishes, with the available combinations determined by the piece. Kiln-dried domestic hardwood frames and product-specific suspension sit beneath a cover chosen for the room and the way it will be used.

How it's made

The frame

Kiln-dried hardwood

Domestically sourced and assembled with water-based low-VOC glues. Recycled paperboard goes into the arm build, which is why we describe a Rowe frame as kiln-dried hardwood rather than solid hardwood throughout — the distinction is Rowe's own, and it is the accurate one.

The suspension

Sinuous steel

US-produced, from recycled steel. Some components use webbing rather than springs, and the specification sheet says which, frame by frame. It is not one answer across the line.

The cushions

Seven packages

Structured foam through memory foam and a recycled-fibre down alternative to a feather-down blend, with published densities and CertiPUR-US certified cores. They sit differently and they age differently. Softening and settling are expected and are not a fault.

Every piece is specified before it's built — finish, cover, cushion and configuration. We spec it with you in the showroom, then it gets made.

Across eight grade bands, including more than two hundred and fifty performance options. Each fabric carries its own rub count, cleaning code and pattern rules — so "performance" is a property of the one you choose, not of the line. We pull the ones that suit the frame and the room.

Cushion packages

Harmony, Cloud, Bliss, Classic, Plush, Luxe and Haven, several with a firmer variant. The differences are real and you can feel them in about four seconds — which is the entire argument for choosing one sitting down rather than from a page.

Leathers

Across six grades — each band holds its own range. Protected leather cleans easily and reads uniform; aniline shows its own history and does not. Rowe leather furniture is handmade in the USA.

Wood finishes9 finishes

On legs, bases and exposed frames. Wood grain and porosity vary within a species, so the same stain lands differently from one piece to the next — that variation is the material, not a fault.
